In traditional Chinese culture, a gecko appearing in the home is often seen as a positive sign.
In ancient China, geckos were sometimes called shougong, a name associated with guarding and protecting the home. There's also a bit of Chinese wordplay: the word for gecko sounds similar to a phrase meaning "to avoid misfortune." Because of this, many people believe that a gecko can help protect the household and keep its good fortune from slipping away.
